
Neil Schmitz is an award winning scholar critic whose work on Mark Twain, Gertrude Stein (Tender Buttons), and George Herriman (Krazy Kat), rethinks the issue of humor in American literature. He is a Guggenheim fellow in Civil War studies, has essays on Abraham Lincoln, Stonewall Jackson, and Civil War photography. He has written widely on cultural topics, on tribal history, principally the Meskwaki resistance in Wisconsin.
